Centre notifies appointment of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC

Ranchi, Feb 17: The Ministry of Law and Justice notified the appointment of Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Judge of Uttarakhand High Court as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court on Friday.The  Law Minister made this announcement on Twitter.

“Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, Judge in Uttarakhand High Court & ( PHC: Orissa) has been appointed as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. I extend my best wishes to him,” he tweeted.

Notably, the tenure of Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Ravi Ranjan was completed on December 19. To ensure that the position does not remain vacant, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Sanjay Kumar Mishra, the senior-most judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to the Central Government. After receiving approval from the Central Government, Sanjay Kumar Mishra was announced as the new Chief Judge of the Jharkhand High Court.

Justice Mishra, who was born on December 29, 1961, earned his LL.B. from Delhi University in 1987. Under the direction of his father, Markanda Mishra, he began practising law at Bolangir District Courts in March of 1988.

He won the top spot in the district judge recruitment exam for members of the bar, and on February 16, 1999, he started serving as an additional district and sessions judge in Jeypore.

In addition, he held positions as District & Sessions Judge in Sundergarh, Dhenkanal, Special Judge (CBI), Bhubaneswar, and joined the Orissa High Court as Registrar General.

On October 7, 2009, Justice Mishra was appointed a judge of the Orissa High Court. After then, he was moved to the High Court of Uttarakhand, where on October 11, 2021, he took over as Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand.

He was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand on 24/12/2021 and held the office till 28/06/2022.
