Ranchi: The Central Government has taken a positive stance on the proposed metro rail project in Jharkhand’s three major cities—Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad—and has asked the state government to prepare and submit an updated Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP).
State Moves to Draft New Plan
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the Urban Development and Housing Department to expedite the preparation of the new CMP. The department has already issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to initiate the process.
Approval Expected After Submission
The state government expects that once the updated CMP is submitted, the Centre will move forward with approvals and other formalities for the metro project. Officials believe this initiative will transform urban transport in Jharkhand and ease traffic congestion in its growing cities.
Why the CMP Matters
The Comprehensive Mobility Plan forms the backbone of major public transport projects like metro systems. It includes a detailed assessment of current and future traffic patterns, road networks, public transport availability, and environmental impact.
Need for Modern Urban Transport
With rising population and vehicle numbers in Jharkhand’s cities, traffic issues have become a pressing concern. The metro project is seen as a sustainable solution that will not only reduce congestion but also have a positive environmental impact. The government aims to finalize and submit the CMP within the next one-and-a-half to two months, after which approvals for the metro project are expected to advance.
