VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR

Hazaribag, Nov 9: Police arrested 49 accused while lodging an FIR against 90 named and 300 unnamed persons after the villagers of Dahuri under Sadar police station in Chatra district took the law in hand and assaulted the police team along with tearing the uniform of an ASI as they were angry with the death of a labourer in a road mishap.

Chatra Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan who visited Sadar hospital today to meet the injured jawans in the incident said those involved in it will not be spared.

After the death of the labourer, ASI Shashikant Thakur reached the spot and took the guilty driver in custody who hit his pickup van with the deceased’s bike. However, the villagers charged Thakur for conniving with the driver to set him free. This sparked anger and the villagers beat him mercilessly besides tearing his uniform.

On the instruction of SP Ranjan, the police swung into action scanning the viral videos, identifying 90 accused and lodging an FIR in Sadar police station. The SP said no one of those involved in attacking on-duty policemen will be spared. “I can only appeal to people to take the law in their hands and not to get involved in such wrongful deeds,” he added.

SP Ranjan also met injured ASI Thakur and other jawans at Sadar hospital and directed SDPO Avinash Kumar to ensure no problem for them. He talked to the civil surgeon Dr Shyamnandan Singh and asked him to provide all required medical facilities to the jawans. On the advice of the doctors, Thakur was referred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag.
