New Delhi, Nov.18: Congress attacked Modi government over the border dispute with China on Thursday, alleging that China has established three villages near Doklam and that the Modi government has made an unforgivable, blatant, and brazen compromise of ‘National Security’ as India’s ‘Territorial Integrity’ is once again exposed, and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue.
“The Prime Minister and Defence Minister have undercut the incredible heroism and insurmountable fortitude of our Armed Forces, who resisted Chinese intrusions and aggressions with indomitable valour and sacrifice,” Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said at a press conference.
“We urge the Prime Minister to come out from behind the smokescreen and face the people,” he added.
New satellite photographs on Chinese military activity, according to Vallabh, indicate the alleged construction of Chinese communities in Bhutanese territory over the last year, with many new settlements spotted extending across an area of about 100 square kilometres (25,000 acres). Between May 2020 and November 2021, the villages were built.
These new villages are located near the Doklam plateau, where India and China clashed in 2017 and China evaded Indian defences to resume road development in the area.
According to Congress, additional development on Bhutanese land is especially concerning for India because India has long counselled Bhutan on its foreign policy and continues to train its armed forces.
“The Modi government made an unforgivable compromise with our national security in the previous 18 months by withdrawing from Finger 4 to Finger 3 on the Northern Bank of Pangong Tso Lake Area,” he stated.
Vallabh went on to say, “Why had China occupied India’s land inside the LAC up to the Y-Junction in the Depsang Plains? Why had China taken over India’s territories inside the LAC up to Y-Junction at Gogra and Hot Springs? Why did China come into our state of Arunachal Pradesh and build a village, a dual-use village? It is a military cantonment as well as a residential community.”
He claimed that the GOC in Chief of the Eastern Army Command stated that China is becoming more active in the Chumbi valley, building infrastructure, roads, and highways. The Chumbi valley has a direct impact on and threatens the Siliguri corridor, also known as the “chicken’s neck,” which connects our seven northeastern states to the rest of India and is of strategic importance.
According to Congress, China’s land grab and illegal entry in Bhutan, as well as the establishment of four new villages near Doklam, is a threat to our national security.
