New Delhi, Oct 19: China has put a hold on the proposal to list Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Shahid Mahmood as a global terrorist tabled by India and the United States at the United Nations.
This is the fourth time in recent months that Beijing has thwarted attempts to have terrorists blacklisted by the international organisation.
The US and India’s request to have Mahmood listed as a global terrorist by the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee was put on hold by China.
China has halted listing requests for terrorists with ties to Pakistan for the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee regime four times in as many months.
Notably, the US Treasury Department had designated Mahmood a global terrorist in December 2016.
