Beijing, Jan 13: China has been attempting to control the Covid-19 pandemic through iron-fist, via its zero Covid policy. People,  Covid-19 patients, contacts, are being compelled to stay in small metal cells and isolation as part of this strategy, according to the Daily Mail. As Beijing prepares to host the Winter Olympics next month, further controls are being implemented in a country that already has stringent measures in place to combat Covid-19 distribution.

Several videos have been shared on social media concerning the situation in Xi’an, Anyang, and Yuzhou, where residents have been confined following the discovery of a few cases of Omicron. These videos provide the basis for media stories.

And China is unfazed in its fight against Covid. Whether it’s pregnant women, toddlers, or the elderly, people are being forced to stay in cramped boxes even if only one person in their neighbourhood tests positive, according to the Daily Mail. According to the same source, these boxes are equipped with a wooden bed and a toilet, and people may be forced to stay in these cramped quarters for up to two weeks. People are frequently informed after midnight that they must immediately relocate to quarantine centres and vacate their homes. These actions, which are part of China’s rigorous zero Covid policy, are aimed at putting an end to the outbreak before the Lunar New Year and the Winter Olympics in China next month.

China’s harsh regulations have been widely criticized. Due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions, a pregnant mother recently lost her baby after being denied admission to a Xi’an hospital. Her Covid negative test result was four hours old, which was the reason she was denied admittance. Then there were stories of a guy dying of a heart attack when a hospital in Xi’an refused to admit him because he lived in a medium-risk neighborhood, despite the fact that he was experiencing chest symptoms.
