Jamshedpur, July 10: A city surveillance control room was set up at the tiny Chakradharpur township in West Singhbhum on Monday.
Set up by the West Singhbhum administration, the control room will monitor over CCTV cameras installed across Chakradharpur which is primarily a railway township.
The control room was inaugurated by the Chakradharpur MLA Sukhram Oraon as the DC Ananya Mittal and SP Ashutosh Shekhar attended the inaugural function beside other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the legislator Sukhram Oraon said that despite being a small town, Chakradharpur is a happening place.
“The city surveillance control room will now enable the police department to serve the public interest in a more effective manner. With the surveillance cameras being monitored round the clock, the police would not only be able to get to know about any criminal incident instantly but will be able to unravel the cases on the basis of the CCTV footage easily, ” observed the legislator.
Oraon also pointed out that as the Lok Sabha election is not far away, the significance of such a control room is bound to increase during the electioneering period.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Ananya Mittal said that after Chakradharpur getting high-tech, the law and order situation will improve here further and life here will be comparatively safer.
“When the surveillance cameras with a control room can be an essential part of the policing in metro cities, why not the same high-tech facility here at Chakradharpur town, ” observed the DC addressing the gathering.
