RAJESH KUMAR PANDEY

Sahebganj, Oct.23: Civil Surgeon of Sahebganj district Dr. Arvind Kumar on Saturday, constituted a six-member enquiry team to probe into the alleged visual loss of nearly half a dozen persons after undergoing cataract surgery in a private nursing home in Barharwa block headquarter of the district.

According to the reports, nearly half a dozen people belonging to different villages under Barharwa block who had undergone cataract surgery on October 5 and October 7, complained about the visual loss in the respective sides of eyes on Friday and had turned up to the nursing home on Saturday for removal of the bandages.

The move of the Sahebganj CS who himself rushed to Barharwa last night to enquire about the matter followed the direction of Health Minister Banna Gupta over the telephone on Friday night itself.

Dr. Kumar however, said that none of the patients in question, who have undergone the surgery at the nursing home, have come forward to register their complaint before him and that he was informed of the matter by the health minister himself on Friday night itself.

“The management of the private hospital, where those patients had the cataract surgery under Ayushman Bharat Yojna, has taken at least three persons to Kolkata for treatment of the loss of their vision as they complained after removal of the bandages,” the civil surgeon said adding that the enquiry committee was directed to submit its report in the next 24 hours.

According to the civil surgeon, the Rural Development Minister and Pakur, MLA Alamgir Alam, had also taken cognizance of the matter and has forwarded names of four persons belonging to Abdullahpur and Madhuapur villages of Barharwa block to him whose vision from respective eyes was lost after the surgery.

“The actual number of such patients has not yet been ascertained as yet,*” he added.
