Motihari: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during the second day of his Pragati Yatra on Tuesday, interacted with Jeevika Didis in Sugao village under Sugauli block. Praising their contributions, the CM highlighted the significant impact of women empowerment initiatives in rural areas.
Addressing the Jeevika Didis, Nitish Kumar said, “Remember how you became Jeevika Didis. Today, there are over one crore of you.” He recalled his government’s efforts since taking office in November 2005, noting the minimal participation of women in self-help groups (SHGs) at the time.
The CM explained how the Jeevika initiative began with loans and emphasized its influence on the central government’s Aajeevika program. “We called it Jeevika; the Centre started it as Aajeevika. We continue to refer to you as Jeevika Didis,” he said.
Jeevika’s Impact Expands to Urban Areas
Nitish Kumar shared that while significant work has been done in rural areas, the Jeevika initiative is now expanding to urban areas. “So far, 26,000 women have been linked to Jeevika groups in urban areas,” he informed.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment, the CM assured Jeevika Didis of continued support and new initiatives for their development. “We respect women as they are the creators of life. While we are working extensively for women, initiatives for men are also underway,” he added.
