Ranchi, Aug.12: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today wrote a letter to union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia requesting him to name Deoghar Airport as “Baba Baidyanath Airport”.

Justifying the demand he said the city of Deoghar is identified as Baba Baidyanath Dham and people of the region strongly feel that the airport must operate under the aegis of Baba Baidyanath.

He said the airport is being built for the benefit of millions of tourists who visit Deoghar every year to pay offerings to Baba Baidyanath and thus it is important to develop religious tourism in the state.

He said the government of Jharkhand realised this and out of a total cost of around Rs 850 crore, the state has contributed more than Rs 600 crore including the cost of providing land towards this project.
