Ranchi, Aug.26: Cooks, who take care of mid day meals for the children in government schools, across the state today hit the road in the Jharkhand capital demanding hike in their remuneration.

Around 250 cooks were noticed near Morabadi ground while around 100 were noticed near Raj Bhawan.

“Rs 2000 remuneration is not sufficient for a cook. Under the same roof the schools, where each of the regular government teachers get approximately Rs 50,000 per month and each of the para teachers get Rs 15000 per month to their families, we are getting just Rs 2000 per month,” said vice president of Jharkhand Pradesh Rasoiya Sangh, Anita Devi.

Another cook supported her. “Earlier remuneration was only Rs 1500 per month. After increment it became Rs 2000 but that too has not been paid for several months,” the cook said.

Cooks assembled at Morabadi wanted either to march to the chief minister’s official residence on Kanke Road or Raj Bhawan where colleagues had turned up to mark their protest against the state government but police stopped them at Morabadi ground and were not allowed to go beyond Morabadi locality.

On which an angry cook was heard saying that cooks will make the fate of Hemant Soren the same which it had made of Raghubar Das’ government if demands of cooks are not fulfilled.
