Ranchi: The owner of Nexgen, Vinay Kumar Singh, has been granted conditional anticipatory bail in connection with the alleged liquor scam under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). As part of his bail conditions, the court has prohibited him from leaving the country without prior permission, and ordered that he must not change his mobile number or residential address. Additionally, he is required to cooperate fully with the ACB’s investigation and refrain from tampering with any evidence.
ACB Inquiry and Vinay Singh’s Plea for Bail
During the probe into the liquor scam, the ACB had issued a notice on May 26 directing Singh to appear for questioning at the ACB office on May 30. Subsequently, on May 28, ACB DSP Santosh Kumar contacted Singh to confirm whether he had received the notice. On the same day, the ACB sent a list of required documents via WhatsApp, instructing him to appear with the documents on May 30.
Amid fears of imminent arrest, Singh approached the court of the Special ACB Judge seeking anticipatory bail, arguing that he has no connection to the liquor business and is, in fact, an automobile dealer. Singh claimed he is not named as an accused in the FIR registered by the ACB in connection with the liquor scam.
ACB’s Objections and Court’s Ruling
Opposing the bail plea, the ACB argued that while Singh is not a named accused in the FIR, his role has emerged during the investigation. Authorities alleged he was deliberately avoiding appearing before the ACB and faces serious allegations that warrant denial of anticipatory bail.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court decided to grant anticipatory bail to Vinay Singh. In its order, the court noted that Singh is not a named accused and no specific or substantial evidence has yet surfaced linking him directly to the alleged offences. The FIR filed by the ACB pertains to forgery, conspiracy, and illegal monetary gains that caused losses to the government. However, the court found that there is currently no solid evidence implicating Singh.
Considering these facts, the court granted anticipatory bail with strict conditions, including travel restrictions and mandatory cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
