Dhanbad, Dec 15: The death of a Covid patient in Sarath block in Deoghar district has sent a panic wave among people and medicos of the health department.
Officials said that genome sequencing samples of the deceased will be sent to identify whether the victim was infected with the Omicron strain of the Covid-19 virus or not.
District Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme’s (IRDP) nodal officer Dr Manish Shekhar said that besides fetching the travel history of the victim, the health department teams are also tracing his contacts for samples collection. “RT-PCR tests will be conducted for people who may have come in contact with the victim,” he said.
As per the Deoghar civil surgeon (CS) CK Shahi, the 54 years old patient was admitted to the Sadar hospital in a critical condition after complaining of a severe breathing problem on Sunday evening. Doctors on duty while starting treatment got his Covid-19 test on Monday. The patient died on the same evening.
The doctors then swung into action as the test report came positive on Tuesday. A health department official said that infection in the district was completely under control as no death report was registered in the last one month in the district.
“However we will analyze his travel history whether he had brought the infection from outside of the district or not,” the official added.
