Mumbai, Feb 16: Bappi Lahiri, a well-known singer and composer in Indian cinema who popularised disco music in the 1980s and 1990s, died on Wednesday after suffering from severe health concerns. He was also admitted to the hospital in April of last year after testing positive for coronavirus. Following the news of Bappi Lahiri’s death, a number of fans flocked to social media to pay tribute to the iconic singer.
Social media was also used by the Indian cricket community to convey their pain and loss. Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar expressed his condolences for Lahiri’s passing on his official Twitter account, saying the singer’s spectrum of talent was genuinely extraordinary.
“I really enjoyed Bappi Da’s music, especially “yaad aa raha hai” – heard it several times in the dressing room. The range of his talent was truly amazing,” he tweeted.

Former India skipper and star batter Virat Kohli also condoled the demise of Lahiri. “A icon of the Indian music industry. Bappi Lahiri you will be missed. May you RIP,” tweeted Virat Kohli.

“With his trademark gold chains that he wore for luck and his sunglasses, Bappi Lahiri was known for his songs in several films of the late 70s-80s. “Very sad to hear about Bappi da.. your songs were always played in our dressing rooms.. #RIPbhappida Condolences to family and friends ..
