Ranchi, July 10: Captain cool Lt Colonel Mahendra Singh Dhoni today visited a stall of handicraft run by Sawar primitive tribe at the Birsa Munda Airport.
He got the opportunity when he, accompanied by his wife Sakshi and daughter Jeeva, reached the airport to take a flight for Chennai to launch the trailer and audio of his company’s Tamil film ‘LGM’ (Let’s Get Married).
The artisans present at the stall gifted Dhoni and his wife Santha’s embroidery and explained their business.
According to artisans, Santha is a new embroidery named ‘Santha’ after the Santhal tribe of Jharkhand. A company of 216 artisans, Craft Tribe Producer Company, has produced the same.
Self-help groups of artisans have been provided with stalls for the sale of their goods at the Birsa Munda Airport under ‘Awsar’. This scheme has been started on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so that tribal and primitive tribe artisans living in remote areas can get a platform to sell their goods.
The sponsorer of Craft Tribe Stall is NABARD, which provides financial assistance to bear the expenses incurred in the stall.
