Ranchi, Feb.21: After extremists, criminals have become active in Lohardaga.

This came to the fore after a section of armed miscreants set a drill machine on fire at Makandu hills, about 60km from the Jharkhand capital under Kudu police station area of Lohardaga district.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when dozens of armed criminals created a ruckus in the crusher plant of Shree Balaji Stone Works Trading Company,

The criminals thrashed two dozen labourers at gunpoint before setting the drill machine on fire. All the injured labourers were sent to a private clinic, from where they were referred to community health centres. There is panic among the workers after the incident.

“The criminals also opened fire in the air to terrorise the workers in order to snatch their mobile phone. They asked them to stop work, threatening them of dire consequences of not doing so,” a police official said.
