Ranchi, Nov.30: An investigation into the recruitment scam in Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) has started. A five-member team of the Ministry of Education (MoE) has reached Ranchi to look into the matter.
On Tuesday, the team members interrogated those responsible in the matter at CUJ campus in Cheri Manatu. Documents related to the appointments were also sought by the team. Allegedly, a total of 62 non-teaching and 50 teaching staff have been wrongfully appointed in CUJ.
The controversy started over the appointments of non-teaching staff in CUJ between June 2017 and August 2020. Most of the appointments have been made during the tenure of the then Vice-Chancellor Nand Kumar Yadav ‘Indu.’
The Ministry of Education had received many complaints including irregularities in appointments and ignoring guidelines. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had written a letter to the Central Human Resource Department to conduct a detailed investigation into the entire matter.
A total of 62 non-teaching posts had been recruited in CUJ during 2017-2020. At the same time, 40 assistant professors were also appointed ignoring the post creation and reservation criteria. The process of appointment that started in the year 2017 continued till a few days before the retirement of the then Vice Chancellor Nand Kumar Yadav.

Internal sources said that the VC had handed over the desired post to his close people by keeping the rules aside. Sources said that a hefty amount was also recovered in lieu of each post. Non teaching staff was appointed in CUJ without approving the rules and VC also appointed his relatives and acquaintances.
Close relatives of Nand Kumar Yadav Indu and his wife, Dr. Roma Yadav were appointed on important posts. There are also talks about appointments of relatives of some big officers of Jharkhand.
In response to a query asked through RTI after the appointment of non-teaching staff, the UGC had said in July 2019 that CUJ has not yet prepared any recruitment rules for appointments of Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, Internal Accounts Officer, Librarian, Public Relations Officer, Junior Engineer (Civil and Electrical), Hindi Translator, Professional Assistant, Senior Technical Assistant, Pharmacist, Security Inspector, Laboratory and Library Assistant-Attendant, Multi Tasking Staff and Information Scientist.
