Ranchi, June 24: In the name of selling books on OLX, cyber criminals duped civil court advocate Binay Kumar and his son Prateek Anand of Rs 9.64 lakh.
The victims are residents of Purnima House under the Argora police station area in the Jharkhand capital. A case has been registered in this connection at the cyber station of CID.
Cyber criminals got an opportunity to dupe money when on June 21, Subhang Mishra, a friend of the advocate’s son Prateek Anand, posted an advertisement on the OLX app to sell his old book.
“After seeing the advertisement, cyber criminals started chatting with Subhang through OLX. During this, an account number and mobile number were asked to send the money, saying that they would buy the books from OLX. Subhang did not have the account number. He gave the mobile number of his friend Prateek Anand to him. After this, the cyber criminal called Prateek Anand from mobile number 8602073669. Then they sent a QR code to Prateek’s number to send the money for the book. After this, the cyber criminal entangled Prateek in the matter here and there and got the QR code scanned. After this, Rs 18,000 was withdrawn from Prateek’s Canara Bank account and Rs 9.46 lakh from the Indian Bank account number of the advocate,” a police official said informing about the case.
