Jamshedpur, July 7: A cyclonic circulation which formed over the Bay of Bengal resulted in intermittent rains in southern and some parts of central Jharkhand since last night.
Satellite pictures suggested that the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal was hovering over north Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh and extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
The monsoon trough was today passing through the centre of a low-pressure area over Kutch and neighbourhood, Dessa, Rajgarh, Siddhi, Ambikapur, Bhubaneswar and thence south-eastwards to East Central Bay of Bengal extending up to 1.5 km above the mean sea level.
Weathermen said the cyclonic circulation was resulting in heavy moisture incursion and cloud formation, especially in southern Jharkhand.
Jamshedpur, Ghatshila and several other parts of the Kolhan region was witnessing intermittent rains since last night.
Kurdeg in Simdega recorded the highest rainfall of around 30 mm in the last 24 – hours. This was followed by Ghatshila which witnessed around 20 mm of rain.
Weathermen said intermittent rains during this time of the season would help in sowing and proper grooming of Kharif crops.
Rain statistics suggested that so far Jharkhand has actually received 141.3 mm of rain against a normal of 246.2 mm, which is a deficit of 43 per cent.
