New Delhi, May 11: At the Cyprus International Athletics Meeting 2022 in Limassol, India’s Jyothi Yarraji won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Jyothi took the top step of the podium in 13.23 seconds, surpassing a 20-year-old national record in the event.
“Heartiest congratulations to Jyothi Yarraji on breaking the 20-year-old #NationalRecord of Anuradha Biswal (13.38/ 2002) in women’s 100m hurdles Jyothi clocked 13.23 (subject to ratification) to set the New NR & win Gold at Cyprus International,” tweeted SAI Media on Wednesday.
In 2002, Anuradha Biswal established the previous record of 13.38 seconds. Natalia Christofi of Cyprus won silver with a time of 13.34s, while Greek athlete Anais Karagianni got bronze with a time of 13.47.
Jyothi’s performance also saw her break the qualifying requirements for the Asian Games 2022 (13.30).Lili Das won the 1500m women’s race in 4:17.79 seconds. In the men’s 200m, India’s Amlan Borgohain won bronze behind Reece Prescod with a time of 21.32 seconds (20.55)
