Daltonganj, March 30: A fire broke out on the campus of the GLA College in Daltonganj today.

However, no damage to property or life was reported.

The eruption of fire caused a state of panic on the campus. There were nervous shoutings all around, according to some eyewitnesses.

Witnesses said the fire was raging as the wind was strong then. Nobody knew how the fire broke out.

Principal of the GLA College I J Khalkho said the fire was accidental. Something was burning outside the campus and the fire travelled inside the campus from there. There were lots of dry leaves around the ground which caught fire.

A fire tender was called in and it contained and controlled the fire.

Sources said it is high time that the Nilamber Pitamber University asks its colleges to have a mechanism to fight fire as every campus of the colleges under this university has one thing in common and that is the heap of dead and dry leaves all around.

The surface water management on the campus of many of the colleges here is also a big miss.

The fire which erupted today on the campus could have caused far more devastation had it not been contained by the fire tender. The space of fire was open and big in the field and hence it had both the things – faster spread over and better control and containment of it.
