Daltonganj, July 23: The Police have made recoveries of around nine motorcycles which were stolen from different places on different dates.

Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha during a press briefing on Saturday said the 14-member team of the town police station led by its officer in charge cum inspector of police Abhay Kumar Sinha unearthed the stolen bikes.

He said it was the foiling of an attempt to steal a bike that led to the unearthing of eight other bikes which were stolen earlier.

Barring one theft which was aborted at the start leading to the arrest of a thief named Mohit in Daltonganj, the recovery of eight other stolen bikes were made from the areas falling under the Pipra police station adjacent to Bihar.

The bikes recovered under the Pipra police station were kept hidden in the shrubs and bushes. Police not only recovered the nine bikes but also arrested four thieves.

Incidentally, all the four bike lifters are from Bihar’s Aurangabad district. Among them, only Mohit is under the age of 20 whereas the remaining three are below 18. Hence, their names are withheld.

The modus operandi of the four was to come to Palamu from Aurangabad and identify the unguarded bikes parked and then steal it.

The stolen bikes were sold for rupees Rs 6,000 to 10,000 each. Its buyers used to be from Bihar as the stolen bikes are put to use in the smuggling of wine.

SP said the police stations close to Bihar have this problem. If these stolen bikes of Jharkhand registration are caught by the police in Bihar, then the Police in Bihar are unaware that an FIR has been already launched in any of the police stations in Jharkhand.

Sources said the recovery of stolen bikes has come as a major achievement to the OC cum inspector of the town police station Abhay Kumar Sinha.
