Daltonganj, March 13: The Jharkhand state police headquarter based nodal officer of effective surveillance and monitoring of the episodes of road accidents Sanjay Anand Lathkar, who is also the additional director general of police Jharkhand has directed the SPs of the districts to enhance measures to reduce the number of road accidents.
Lathkar said, “There are 54 black spots in the 24 district state Jharkhand. These black spots are the ones where accidents occur most. We need to contain it.”
“Our officers in the districts have put in place measures like speed breakers, breath analysers, control of overspeeding,” added Lathkar. He said people should also come forward to check road accidents by just adhering to simple traffic rules.
He went on to say, “We are going to set up police patrolling around the black spots more and at the usual time period when accidents occurred here including from 6 pm to 9 pm.”
Lathkar added further, “QR codes will enable us to see if our police patrol team was there or around the place. There is a noticeable decrease in accidents on blind spots on the NH and SH but we have been getting distressing reports of road accidents in the interiors. Such incidents in the interior regions need to be curtailed for which I have directed the SPs and other officials to work out measures.”
Notably, seven percent of road accidents are that of young people of 18 years of age while 20 percent of accidents are that of people in the 25-year-age group. Lathkar said, “Our efforts are to bring it down. The task is not easy but at the same time it is not unreachable.”
Lathkar also had a word of appreciation for the SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha and he said, “The Palamu SP went on to the Akashvani urging people to be safe on roads and allow others to be equally safe. Such awareness drive is a great thing to do.”
SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha informed, “Cops in different police stations have been given first-hand training to bandage injured victims of road accidents. A wound wash or a bandage comes as a tremendous relief for victims.”
SP said, “Cops are being trained to first stop bleeding. Bandaging can do it to some extent.”
“Another reason for fatality in road accidents is choking. Cops are getting medical tips to keep the road accident victims’ respiratory tract workable. We believe our cops will learn it faster as once the respiration is on chances of survival of the road accident victims are high,” said the SP.
The Mongia iron bar factory Giridh has gifted 48 rolling traffic barriers to Palamu assuring 150 more to be sent soon here informed the SP. He said, “We need more traffic cones to regulate traffic to avoid collisions.”
