Jamshedpur, April 2:  Dashrath Mahto today took over as the new general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) Jamshedpur Business Area (BA).  He replaced Sanjeev Verma, the longest-serving general manager.

Verma who was posted here for five years and eight months was transferred to BSNL ‘s Bihar circle where he will serve as general manager ( CFA ) at Patna.

Mahto worked at the Jamshedpur Business Area as DGM ( Administration and Planning). Sanjay Singh took charge of the DGM. The change of guards took place at the BSNL office near Golmuri Post Office this afternoon.

Verma thanked the employees and family members of BSNL Jamshedpur and said that he will take up the new assignment in Patna on April 6.

“Whatever achievements we saw during my tenure were because of good teamwork. Despite the difficult phase that BSNL was passing through since 2019, we could achieve inclusive growth. We worked towards brand building, ” said Verma in his farewell speech.

He went on to say that much emphasis and a significant push was given to Fibre- to- the – home ( FTTH ) service which also brought laurels to the Jamshedpur Business Area.

In Jamshedpur, where the Bharat Air Fibre service was launched in August last year, 900 connections are being added per month.

Significantly,   Jamshedpur was recognised as BSNL’s largest business area in the fibre to the home (FTTH) internet sector in the Jharkhand circle.

There are around 36,925 FTTH connections in the state and the bulk of these are in Jamshedpur (16,367), which is nearly 44 per cent, followed by Ranchi (8,598) which is nearly 23 per cent.

According to data shared by BSNL, there are 1.6 million FTTH customers in India and every month around 1 lakh connections are being added.

The outgoing GM informed that BharatNet which started as the National Optical Fibre Network in 2011 is being merged with BSNL so that the telecom major could provide its internet services in gram panchayats.

Notably, BSNL’s Jamshedpur Business Area under the leadership of Verma provided incredibly flawless high-speed internet service during the just concluded SAFF U-18 Women’s Football Championship at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The telecom major also caters to the high-speed internet service at the Adityapur-based National Institute of Technology ( NIT ), Kolhan University, schools and various other educational and business organisations under Jamshedpur Business Area.
