Ranchi, Aug.16: Corona positivity rate is high in the Jharkhand capital. Till 9am today, out of 217 active cases across the state, as many as 98 were from Ranchi, according to a health department report. It is followed by Dhanbad with 27 positive cases.

A health department official said that on August 15 as many as 9 cases were found in the State capital.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan today held a meeting of Covid-19 task force on virtual mode. He asked them to be alert saying it is not time to relax. He asked the Covid-19 task force members to review institutional isolation of positive patients and directed the incident commander to give details of the Covid-19 patients detected during the last seven days.

DC Ranjan also directed to ensure that Covid-19 positive patients do not remain at their homes and asked the DDC to visit isolation centres at Khelgaon, CCL and Sadar Hospital to see its status.

The DC asked the testing cell members to increase the number of testing, directing them to do testing at a minimum of three schools per day besides doing tests of samples collected from the airports, railway stations and the bus stand.

Other directions given during the meeting included a daily bed occupancy report by the civil surgeon, proper coordination with DSE and DEO for making vaccination centres in schools and shifting of vaccination centres from those schools where classes are being organised.

Meanwhile, Marwari School, a government-run school in the heart of the city which was closed on Friday following the detection of three cases of Covid-19 from a class on Friday, was opened today.

School principal Ashish Kumar informed this saying before the opening of the school, the class, IXA, where three students were found Covid-19 positive, was properly sanitized.

Asked principal Kumar regarding the other steps taken, he said teachers were tested for corona.

“All teachers were found negative after they were tested,” principal Kumar said.

Asked about the testing of students, the principal said: “Students were expected to be tested today but due to delay in arrival in the testing team the programme was postponed for tomorrow. As the students stay in the school till 12 noon, testing will be completed before that,” Kumar said.

Asked about other precautions, the principal said students were well informed about the option of attending their classes online. “Students were properly explained that it is not mandatory for them to come to school and explained well that they can attend their classes online,” he said.
