New Delhi, April 23: Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined his 100 percent match fee against Rajasthan Royals for violating the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct.
Pant was spotted on Friday, April 22 bringing back his players after a no-ball ruling went against them in the game’s final over.
The DC camp claimed that their hitter had been bowled a waist-high no-ball and sought that the TV umpire verify it. The on-field umpires, on the other hand, were adamant that the high full toss was under the required height and ruled that the ball was lawful.
DC camp flew into frenzy in response, and TV cameras caught Pant calling back the duo and signalling that they were ready to leave the game.
“Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL release said on Saturday morning.
Apart from Pant, DC all-rounder Shardul Thakur was fined 50% of his match money and accepted the sentence for violating the Level 2 violation under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
The penalty was also handed down to Delhi Capitals assistant coach Praveen Amre, who ran into the ground, apparently on orders from DC camp or Pant, and fought with the umpire about the event.
“Pravin Amre, Assistant Coach, Delhi Capitals has been fined 100 percent of his match-fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He will also face a one-match ban for the offence,” read the IPL release.
The Delhi Capitals were defeated by Rajasthan Royals by 15 runs yesterday, despite putting up a record 222/2 thanks to Jos Buttler’s third century of the season.
The game had lots of drama, and it all came down to RR’s Obed McCoy and DC’s Rovman Powell in the final over, with Delhi needing 36 runs. Powell smashed three sixes in the first three balls, including a third six off a high full toss, giving DC optimism.
Things started to fall apart at that point, with DC demanding the no-ball in an out-of-control manner. Powell and DC were hampered by the shift in momentum, as they failed to hit another six, losing the game by 15 runs.
