Death toll rises to nine in Bikaner-Guwahati train derailment

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will visit the train accident site today.

Jalpaiguri, Jan 14: The death toll in the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train accident has gone up to nine, while 42 others were hospitalised after being injured in the mishap, Union Minister John Barla informed on Friday. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will visit the train accident site in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal today.

The Prime Minister, earlier on Thursday took stock of the situation. An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those who receive grievous injuries and Rs 25,000 for those who suffer simple injuries.

A train accident took place in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Thursday. Multiple bogies of the Guwahati-Bikaner Express (15633UP) have derailed.
