New Delhi, Jan 31: The Delhi airport implemented a rule that allowed domestic passengers to carry only one piece of luggage or handbag as cabin luggage, with some restrictions.
According to a Delhi airport official, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) have advised that just one piece of ‘Cabin Luggage’ is allowed per person.
There are some exceptions, such as a ladies handbag, an overcoat or a wrap, a rug or blanket, a camera or pair of binoculars, a reasonable amount of reading material, an umbrella or a walking stick, an infant’s feed for consumption during the flight and an infant’s carrying basket if an infant is carried, a collapsible wheelchair and/or pair of crutches or braces for passenger’s use if dependent on these, a gift item
The official went on to say that the advise was announced at the airport’s entrance to avoid any inconvenience to passengers during the security check.
The recommendation comes in the wake of the CISF’s appeal to BCAS to ensure that all stakeholders and airlines follow the one bag limit, as passengers carrying 2-3 handbags cause congestion at security checkpoints and lengthen security screening times, causing passengers inconvenience.
