New Delhi, Dec 4: Voting for the first Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections commenced on Sunday morning under heavy security in 250 wards. Voting started at 8 am and will end at 5:30 pm.
The high-stakes civic elections, which are primarily considered as a three-way race between the BJP, the AAP, and the Congress, will feature around 1.45 crore eligible voters and 1,349 candidates.
Top leaders, including Union ministers, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, and MPs took to the streets for door-to-door campaigning and meetings to win over the public in Delhi as a result of the AAP and BJP’s loud campaigning.
The counting of votes will be done on December 7.
Data from the State Election Commission shows that there are 1,45,05,358 registered voters in Delhi overall, including 78,93,418 men, 66,10,879 women, and 1 061 transgender people. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has 250 wards (MCD).
13,638 voting places have been put up by the Delhi State Election Commission.
According to the State Election Commission, a sizable team of election officials and security organisations made enormous efforts to make the essential preparations for holding elections at 13,638 polling stations dispersed around Delhi. For the sake of the voters’ quality experience, 68 Model Polling Stations and 68 Pink Polling Stations have also been built. The necessary preparations have been made for the deployment of the military.
