New Delhi: Despite heavy rains lashing the National Capital Region, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday asserted that the city did not experience waterlogging—a persistent problem in previous years. She emphasized that her government is actively working to resolve drainage and flooding issues in specific areas.
Inspections and Government Efforts Highlighted
Speaking after inaugurating the Delhi Development Authority’s Aarambh Pustakalaya at Adhchini Village in South Delhi, Gupta stated, “Delhi has begun a new journey. As you have observed, we conducted multiple inspections at Barapullah, Kushak Drain, and Minto Bridge. Despite heavy rainfall, there was no waterlogging, which was a legacy. This time, there was no such thing. ITO and Barapullah were smooth,” she told reporters, according to PTI.
Gupta acknowledged, however, that a few areas still require significant infrastructural improvements. “There are some areas where long-term solutions are needed. In the next year, the situation will be better during the rains. The government is working hard for this,” she added.
IMD Issues Red Alert as Airlines Warn Passengers
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a “red” alert for Delhi, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday. In response, airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India issued advisories urging passengers to leave early for the airport and check flight statuses due to potential delays caused by adverse weather.
While Delhi managed to avoid major waterlogging, neighboring Gurugram reported significant water accumulation in several areas, leading to traffic snarls following overnight rain.
