New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday hit back at former CM Atishi, who accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of breaking its election promises. Gupta dismissed the claims, highlighting the BJP’s immediate actions after assuming office and questioning the track record of previous governments.
“The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on just one day of ours?” Gupta remarked. She defended her government’s swift action, emphasizing that in its first cabinet meeting, the BJP-led administration cleared the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which had been blocked by AAP. “We gave a benefit of ₹10 lakh to the people of Delhi on the very first day,” she stated.
Hitting back at the AAP, Gupta added, “They have no right to question us. We will focus on Delhi’s development now, and under PM Modi’s leadership, the city will get its due. AAP should focus on their own party, as many leaders are looking to leave. They are scared that once the CAG report is tabled in the Assembly, several irregularities will be exposed.”
Atishi had earlier released a video, criticizing the BJP for failing to implement one of its key election promises. “BJP had promised the women of Delhi that in the first cabinet meeting, they would pass a scheme granting ₹2,500 per month. The new CM Rekha Gupta and her cabinet took oath, and later in the evening, their first cabinet meeting was held. The women of Delhi were eagerly waiting for the announcement, but the BJP failed to fulfill its promise. From day one, the BJP has started betraying the people of Delhi,” Atishi alleged.
Rekha Gupta, who secured victory from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister on Thursday. She will oversee key portfolios, including General Administration, Finance, Revenue, Women and Child Development, Vigilance, and Planning, along with other unallocated departments.
