Washington: Talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad ended without a final agreement, with US Vice President JD Vance confirming that the American delegation is returning after negotiations failed to produce a deal.

21-Hour Talks Yield No Breakthrough

The discussions reportedly lasted for 21 hours and were aimed at turning the temporary two-week ceasefire into a longer and more stable peace arrangement after nearly 40 days of conflict in the Middle East.

However, both sides failed to reach consensus on several critical issues, leading to the collapse of the negotiations.

Disputes Over Key Conditions

One of the major sticking points was the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital maritime route for global oil supplies. Differences also remained over broader terms connected to regional security and future commitments.

Vance stated that the United States had presented what it considered the best possible deal, but Iran did not accept the proposal.

Uncertainty Over Future Peace Efforts

The failed talks have created fresh uncertainty over whether the temporary ceasefire can evolve into a permanent peace framework. Diplomatic channels may remain open, but no immediate breakthrough has been announced.

The development is being closely watched globally because of its potential impact on regional stability, energy markets, and international security.
