New Delhi, Oct 18: In the conspiracy case involving the Delhi Riots, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied bail to activist and former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid.
The decision was made by a division bench consisting of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Rajnish Bhatnagar.
“We don’t find any merit in bail appeal, appeal is dismissed,” the Court ordered.
After hearing arguments from Senior Attorney Trideep Pais and Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad on September 9, the Court had reserved its decision. The High Court debates lasted for more than 20 days.
In March of this year, Khalid filed a complaint with the High Court challenging the Karkardooma court’s denial of his bail request.
Notably, in September 2020, the Delhi Police detained him and charged him for violating the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, rioting, and unlawful assembly (UAPA).
