New Delhi, August 8: Atishi, the Public Works Department minister, was given control of the service and vigilance departments by the Delhi government on Tuesday. The two ministries, which are now held by the sole woman in the Delhi Cabinet, were formerly led by Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sent the rejig proposal to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

The action was taken a day after the Rajya Sabha approved the Delhi services bill, which will grant the Centre power over the bureaucracy in the nation’s capital.

After Saxena approved a plan to rejig the Cabinet, she was given extra responsibility for the revenue, planning, and finance departments in June. Earlier, Kailash Gahlot, the Transport Minister, was in charge of these three departments.

The most among all city ministers, Atishi will now hold 14 portfolios, including those for education and power. The Kalkaji constituency is represented by Atishi.

Multiple changes to ministerial positions have been noted by the Delhi Cabinet in recent months. Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi were sworn in as ministers in March of this year following the resignations of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, both resigned over alleged money laundering and are currently in jail.
