New Delhi: Parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed dark skies and intense weather activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts for areas including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, warning of severe thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms.

IMD Issues Multi-Level Alerts Across NCR
The IMD upgraded Delhi’s warning from yellow to orange, while outer NCR regions were placed under a red alert, indicating the likelihood of moderate to severe thunderstorms. Areas under orange alert, including Gurugram and Faridabad, are expected to experience moderate storm activity, while yellow alert zones may receive light rain and thunderstorms. The alerts were in effect until the evening as sudden weather changes swept across the region.

Temperature and Weather Conditions
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of around 25°C, with the maximum expected to reach approximately 36°C. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall were forecast in isolated parts of the city. Weather stations such as Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road, and Ayanagar reported similar temperature ranges, reflecting consistent conditions across the capital.

April Weather Turns Unusual
This April has been marked by contrasting weather patterns, making it one of the wettest months in nearly two decades. The city recorded about 27.9 mm rainfall, significantly higher than usual, contributing to cooler temperatures and improved air quality. Only one heatwave day has been recorded so far, making it one of the coolest Aprils in recent years.

Improved Air Quality Amid Rainfall
Rain and strong winds have helped improve Delhi’s air quality, with the AQI currently in the “moderate” category. The capital has experienced one of its cleanest Aprils in four years, with lower pollution levels compared to previous years, according to environmental data.
