New Delhi, July 10: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has established a control centre to monitor the enforcement of the ban on 19 single-use plastic goods and will begin closing down violating units on Monday, According to officials.

An official stated on Sunday that the control room will receive all complaints pertaining to the breach of the SUP prohibition and will instruct enforcement teams to act on them.

“Though the DPCC’s mandate is to keep a check on the manufacturing of SUP items, complaints related to the violation of the ban in markets and other public places can also be sent to our control room. We will transfer it to the municipal bodies concerned,” he said.

One can also file complaints about the violations using the Central Pollution Control Board’s ‘SUP-CPCB’ application or the Delhi government’s Green Delhi application.

When the ban on SUP products went into force on July 1, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated that the Delhi government will be forgiving of individuals who broke the ban for the first 10 days and concentrate on raising awareness about the usage of such products and promoting alternatives.

He had stated that until July 10 the government will give warning letters to any units found in violation of the 19 SUP item prohibition, adding that repeat offenders would then face disciplinary punishment.
