New Delhi, July 10: S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, stated on Sunday that India has been helping Sri Lanka and has been keeping an eye on events there, adding that there is currently no refugee issue.
Jaishankar’s remarks show how India has remained supportive of its neighbours despite adversity. With Sri Lanka currently experiencing an unparalleled political and economic crisis, his comments are especially more significant.
“We have been supportive of Sri Lanka, are trying to help, and have always been helpful. They are working through their problem, we will see what happens. There is no refugee crisis right now, said Jaishankar upon his arrival in Kerala as part of intensifying the BJP’s efforts to make gains in South India.
In accordance with its “neighbourhood first policy,” India has swiftly reacted to the government of Sri Lanka’s appeal for support in overcoming hardships and would strengthen economic ties between the two nations through the use of renewable energy and connected infrastructure.
Responding to a question on India-Sri Lanka ties, he said “We have responded with urgency to government of Sri Lanka’s request for assistance for overcoming hardships,” adding that “India stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and works in their best interest.”
