Dhanbad, May 25: The demand for the appointment of regular vice-chancellor in Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad has gained political momentum as MLA and MP have joined in the campaign with teachers association and students unions.
The university has been functioning without a regular vice-chancellor (VC) for the last nine months after the retirement of Anjani Kumar Srivastava on August 31, 2021.
Commissioner of North Chhotanagpur Division, Hazaribagh Kamal John Lakra was given the additional charge of BBMKU vice-chancellor on September 1, 2021, after the retirement of AK Srivastava. Lakra too retired from service on January 31, 2022.
Eight days later, the state government issued a notification on February 8, 2022, giving an additional charge of BBMKU to Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Narayan Deo. Dr Deo has since then spends four days at VBU headquarters Hazaribagh and the remaining two days at BBMKU headquarters Dhanbad.
BBMKU Teachers Association and students unions have been agitating for the appointment of a regular vice-chancellor alleging that in the absence of supreme authority (VC), official functions have been almost crippled.
BBMKU Teachers Association had last month even sent a resolution to the Chancellor (Governor of state) for the immediate appointment of regular VC.
On May 24, Dhanbad MP Pashupati Nath Singh met Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhawan, Ranchi and requested the appointment of regular vice-chancellor in BBMKU as the newly created university is suffering in absence of it.
Earlier, BJP Dhanbad Sadar MLA Raj Sinha had met Governor last month and apprised him of the problem being faced by students and teachers of the university as the post of regular vice-chancellor is vacant in BBMKU for the last nine months.
“A university requires full-time authority for smooth functioning. Present in-charge V-C has not enough time to sit at Dhanbad as he is regular V-C of VBU Hazaribagh,” said Raj Sinha.
Dhanbad MP PN Singh after meeting Chancellor told media persons that two meetings of the VC search committee have been held and a regular VC for BBMKU would be appointed soon.
