Dhanbad, March 22: B Tech and M Tech students of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad today sat on dharna before the administrative building of the institution opposing the offline examination and demanding for online test.
The agitating students pointed out that when teaching was done online round the year then why an offline examination is being taken. The examination should be held through an online medium as classes were held online.
“At any cost, we would only give online examination,” said the agitating students.
However, the management of IIT-ISM ruled out holding an online examination saying that the lockdown was imposed across the country on March 25, 2020, in the wake of the Corona pandemic. Online teaching has started in all schools, colleges and technical institutions. “Now Covid-19 infection is under control and all educational institutions across the country have started holding offline examination. So IIT-ISM is also going to hold the offline examination,” said a senior authority of the institution (IIT).
The authority said that in online examinations, the possibility of unfair means can’t be ruled out. “So when all the technical institutions of the country have moved ahead with the offline examination, IIT-ISM would not go back on this point,” the authority said.
Earlier in the morning as per the announced programme, IIT ISM students assembled in front of the administrative building of the institution, where the director sits, at around 11 am and sat on dharna after holding a demonstration in support of their demand.
However, at around 2 pm, the IIT management called them for a talk to solve the matter.
One of the students, Prince Kumar said that Dean has called two members of the students union to decide about the fate of the examination.
