Deoghar, March 17: Panda Dharmarakshini Sabha general secretary Kartik Nath Thakur Lakhraj has sat on fast-unto-death since Wednesday at Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk in protest against non-registration and transfer of land.
He started this to ease the process of registering the land of Lakhraj, land given by the royal families to the priest to settle near Baba Baidh Nath Temple. The rent taxation of the land was never required neither by British Revenue System nor even after the independence.
However, after the introduction of online land sale registration, some documents required by default have not been met by applicants as the rent receipts paid by the landholder of Lakhraj.
Mahamantri Kartik Nath Thakur said, “Landholders are helpless to get their ancestral land transferred and sell it over hours. He claims that the landholder cannot even mortgage their land to cover the education loans and sales for their daughter`s marriage and meet the cost of medicine. Despite facing problems, people like Vasya and Sindhurya also claimed to be in the same boat.”
People from various sections of society are visiting him to give extend their support. BJP Nagar Adhyaksha Chandra Sekhar, Santosh Paswan, Ravi Kesari president of Deoghar Chamber of Commerce Nunu Jha (RJD) and many others extended their support.
Speaking to Lagatar24.com, the Vice President of Sabha Manoj Mishra said that residents of Lakhraj land are willing to pay the rent after the fixation by the government, but the local district administration has shown no interest in resolving the issue. Only after the fixation of rent, we will be able to get our land online registered and further transfer. Landholders have to run from pillar to post, he added.
He claimed that despite the rental tax cap on such land, there are many examples of commercial transfers of such land through the support of district administration. Several time delegation has been visited to meet the local administration on this issue.
Householders on this land have been paying all types of tax levied by the Deoghar Municipal Corporation.
Talking to Lagatar24.com, local ex-municipal counsel (parshad) Kamal Ji, who hails from a priest family, campaigns for the restoration of the old system that has continued under the undivided state of Bihar. He further claims that it was a smooth registration process of land, there was no need for NOC from the block development office.
As per information, the central government has taken initiative for a corridor around Baba Baidh Nath Dham Temple so time will be tough for landholders of Lakharaj land to get compensation.
