Dhanbad, Nov 5: The Deoghar administration has pressed in ‘bike teams’ at block level to administer Covid-19 vaccine house to house people in urban and rural areas for achieving 100% vaccination of the district by November 30.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri said that so far only 52% of people in the district have taken their first dose of the Covid vaccine and merely 21% have received the second dose of it. In this situation, we would have to ensure 100% vaccination of people for complete protection from Corona infection, he added.
“We have to administer the first dose to 100% of people by November 30. For this, we would have to cover 30,000 people per day to achieve the target,” said the DC while addressing online the Mukhiya and people’s representatives of 195 Panchayats of Deoghar district.
He said that ‘Bike teams’ would visit door to door in the township and villages to administer the vaccination drive. He sought help from Mukhiyas of 195 Panchayats and said that without their cooperation, mission 100% can’t be achieved.
To accelerate the pace of the vaccination drive, the DC directed concerned officials of the health department to hold camps at ‘Haat’ (village market) and daily markets so that maximum people could be covered. He said that the administration is committed to cover all people above 18 years with vaccination.
Deoghar is among those nine districts of Jharkhand where vaccination achievement is below 50%. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 3 had discussed with the DCs of these districts over the poor vaccination rate and directed to accelerate the pace for achieving the 100% target.
This is the second time the Deoghar district administration has decided to use bike teams for implementing the health programme. In 2020, it had launched ‘Bike Ambulance’ for providing help to ‘Kanwar’ (devotee of Baba Baidyanath) in hustle –bustle roads during the Shrawan Mela.
