Dhanbad Jan 20: Deoghar police have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Shiv Mangla Ashram near Baba Baidyanath temple under town police station.They also took a dozen youths in custody for interrogation in this regard last night.
Deoghar superintendent of police (SP) Dhananjay Kumar Singh, when contacted, admitted to have recovered this huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition from the Ashram in a late evening raid on Wednesday.
“A dozen youths have been taken into custody in this connection . They are being interrogated. Only on completion of the interrogation, we would make any comment,” he said.
A senior police official of the district said that the SP got information that some criminals had gathered in the Ashram near Baba Baidyanath temple with arms to commit land related crime.
On SP’s directive, a team of three police stations, including town, Jasidih and Rikhia police stations under SDPO Pawan Kumar and Inspector Ratan Kumar Singh, raided the Ashram in the evening and recovered two rifles, half dozen country made pistol and cartridges in huge quantities from possession of the youths.
The police team also recovered papers of land in the Ashram from possession of youths. It is believed that the youths ,who were nabbed with arms, were involved in getting possession of a disputed land to party at gunpoint.
The police also believe that the apprehended youths might have members of Baba Parihast gang, who is behind bars at present.
Police are also doing an investigation from whom youths had obtained arms and ammunition for committing crime.
