Deoghar, April 11: The rescue operation of people stranded mid-air following a collision of ropeway trollies on Sunday in Deoghar came to halt as a tourist fell off while getting out of the trolley and boarding the helicopter taking the number of death tolls to 2.
An investigation will reveal the real story of the Trikut ropeway incident but an on-duty staff of the managing agency of ropeway shared on condition of not disclosing his name what had gone wrong on Sunday evening. According to him, first, the iron rope of the cabin going up derailed resulting in all cabins heading upward starting to come down speedily. The last cabin of the upward going group of the cabin, that is cabin number 11, came down and collided massively with a stone.
Another source said that first, the iron rope slipped off the pulley fixed on the top of the mountain from where the cabin takes round and comes down the hill which resulted in the collapse of the whole system.
At the same time, Deoghar deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has also denied any breakage of the iron rope.
At present due to the death of another by falling off from the chopper during the rescue, the operation has come to a halt where personnel of Indo-Tibetian Border Police, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) had reached the spot in the morning for rescue work.
