Rohtak, Feb 7: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is at present loged in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for rapping two of his disciples, was granted a three-week vacation on Monday, informed officials.
The Dera chief’s release has been confirmed for the next three weeks, according to a jail official.
He had previously been granted emergency paroles from sunrise to sunset to visit his ailing mother, but this time he was granted furlough.
According to Haryana jail minister Ranjit Singh Chautala, every detainee has the legal right to a furlough, and the same was applied to the Dera chief.
The release of Gurmeet Ram Rahim is viewed as a key step ahead of the Punjab assembly elections on February 20. Many assembly seats in Punjab are influenced by the sect leader from Sirsa.
