Dhanbad, Dec 14: a three –day Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal Univercity (BBMKU) youth festival ‘Antarnad 22’ began at SSLNT Womens’ College on Wednesday.
Vice-chancellor Sukhdev Bhoi inaugurated the festival and exhorted the students to exhibit their art in the interest of himself as well as their institution. A team of 13 colleges of the university are participating in the festival.
“You have come to learn subjects and hone your study. But youth festival gives you an opportunity and proper platform to showcase your hidden arts. Moreover, art and culture make students free from study tension,” said Sukhdev Bhoi, the VC.
Dean of students welfare (DSW) Dr SK Sinha, while addressing the inaugural function, said that on basis of performance in this festival, a team of BBMKU would be selected for East Zone Inter-University Youth Festival scheduled to be held at Bhubaneswar from December 23 to 27.
“Though students have got short time for preparation of the festival, hope they would able to display inner talent in a much better way,” he said.
Earlier, participants assembled at Golf Ground and took out tableau based on different themes of social and current burning issues. The team of the oldest college of the university PK Roy Memorial College showed the torture of police on people carrying coal illegally on cycle. Gurunanak College team’s theme was development in Dhanbad and showed the first 8- lane road of the state being constructed in coal city.
The team of BSK College Maithon pointed out the increasing negative culture in society, especially the tendency of people to take selfies and taking of photos of road accidents rather than helping the victim.
The organisers said during the three-day festival, competitions would be held in semi-classic vocal, Indian/Karnataka solo classic vocal, classical instrument solo percussion, and Classic instrument solo non-percussion. Light vocal Indian, light vocal western solo, group song Indian and group song western, quiz, debate, elucation, classical dance and others.
