Ranchi, Dec 14: The Ranchi University on Wednesday signed an MoU with officials from the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to open Common Service Centres (CSCs) at RU premises along with 91 other colleges under the University. Along with this, the university inaugurated the first CSC at its premise.
Explaining in this regard, VC Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha said, “The Ranchi University is set to become the first University in the country to be signing an MoU to provide CSCs, also known as Pragya Kendra in the university keeping the needs of the students in mind. These will have computer systems connected with printers and other output devices.”
As a result, children will not have to waste large amounts of money on cybercafes for printouts, filling forms, and downloading admit cards among other things. They will be able to get this work done at a nominal amount set by the Central Government. The students will soon also be able to check their mark sheets, and download migration and provisional certificates, informed the VC.
He said that soon the university will make such provisions that all documents of a student related to the university will be saved in DigiLocker, which in turn will make life easier for the students.
“Apart from this, under the MoU tie-ups will be done with educational institutions including IBM and IIT Bombay to provide over 200 Diploma and Certificate courses of three months to a year. The fee of said courses may vary from zero to Rs 10000, depending upon the course. These courses include IBM skill course, Primary Teacher Training, Nursery Teacher Training, Computer Application, Hardware and Networking, Internet and Multimedia, MS Office, Yoga, Financing and Accounting, Health and Sanitary, Hospital Desk Management, Hospital Assistant, mobile repairing and tractor repairing among others,” the VC added.
VC Sinha further informed that students will receive the degrees for said courses from IIT Bombay and IBM. Centres for this have been set up at the study centre at the Central Library in RU campus Morabadi, and Kota Cabin Container in the RU campus.
When questioned about the number of computers in a centre, he said that the university will try to set up at least 30 systems at the centre. He further added that all systems in departments of the university will be open for all for training purposes.
Sarthik Saxena from CSC-SPV Delhi said, “RU is the first ever university in the nation opening CSCs at its premises. The reason behind setting up the centres was to provide a mode through which the students are able to get important documents without having to spend large amounts of sums in cybercafes. Other services offered at the Pragya Kendras including Aadhar and Pan update among others will also be provided here.”
Anupam Upadhyay, CSC-SPV further informed of the required minimum qualifications for the said courses. He said, “10th-pass candidates may take admissions in Diploma and Certificate courses, while 12th-pass candidates will be eligible for Advanced Diploma courses. Apart from this, the courses provided by IIT-B and IBM do not have set criteria, however, it may be expected that Graduate candidates will be opting for said courses. Courses provided by IMB will be free of cost, while the maximum fees of the courses to be provided by IIT-B will be Rs 300.”
