Dhanbad, April 30: Teachers of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad have protested against the working style of vice-chancellor (VC) Dr Mukul Narayan Dev and decided to meet the Chancellor (Jharkhand Governor) over the issue.
BBMKU Teachers’ Association at the meeting presided by president Dr RK Tiwari charged that the face of the university is being maligned due to the decisions of the VC in charge. The teachers’ body alleged that a syndicate is working in the university which is engaged in taking decisions daily against the established norms to humiliate teachers.
Dr Mukul Narayan Dev is the regular vice-chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh and has the additional charge of BBMKU.
Senior teachers at the meeting said that the VC has appointed an assistant professor as the OSD. It is a prerogative of him to appoint any person as the OSD.
“But in the same notification, he has also stated that the OSD would be officiating in charge of the registrar whenever the regular registrar would be on leave. Such a thing has never been seen in any university in the state. It is nothing but a way to humiliate the teachers,” they alleged.
Moreover, the teachers’ body also expressed concern over the shifting of the university’s fixed deposit to another bank by the caretaker vice-chancellor.
BBMKU had reportedly fixed a deposit of Rs 15 crores in a bank. But the acting V-C has shifted the amount to another bank at a lower interest rate. The previous bank had been giving higher interest rates.
Teachers association’s general secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary charged that V-C has been floating rules and regulations right from the day he was given the additional charge of BBMKU. Whenever the university issues a notification, it has to be amended due to some error.
“The most glaring incident was that even on the foundation day, the university authorities overlooked to pay tributes to Binod Bihari Mahto on whose name the university’s name has been kept,” said Dr Choudhary.
Teachers at the meeting resolved that since the responsibility of saving the dignity and prestige of the newly formed university lies on the association, a delegation would meet the Governor and higher authorities of the state government for the appointment of regular vice-chancellor in the university so that it functions smoothly.
