Dhanbad: BIT Sindri’s senior prof JP Singh dies of cardiac arrest

Dhanbad, Jan 14: Senior faculty member of BIT Sindri civil engineering department Prof JP Singh (60) died of cardiac arrest in the early morning of Saturday at his campus-based quarter.

BIT director Dr DK Singh giving this information said that Prof JP Singh, associate professor of the civil engineering department, had been ill for the last five to six years and died early morning at around 3 AM on Saturday.

“He was suffering from heart-related ailments and a pacemaker was implanted in his body,” said the director.

Prof Singh joined BIT Sindri in 1994 and was scheduled to retire this year from his service on November 30, 2023. Unfortunately, he passed away 11 months before retirement.

As the news of the death spread, a pall of gloom descended on Sindri township and on the campus of BIT Sindri. BIT Director DK Singh and all faculty members, staff and students of the institution, social activists reached his residence and paid rich tributes to Prof JP Singh.

The family members said his last rite would be performed at his native Khaira village under the Daud Nagar police station of  Aurangabad district in Bihar. 

Besides his wife, he has left three sons Kunal Singh, Puskar Singh, and Anurag Singh and a daughter Annu. Puskar is a graduate of IIT ISM Dhanbad and Anurag Singh studied at BIT Sindri.

“Death of senior teacher Prof JP Singh is an unparallel loss to the institution and faculty. He was a dedicated and devoted teacher who did not compromise with his principal ever. He was kind-hearted and maintain friendly behaviour with all,” said Dr DK Singh while paying tributes.

Prof Krishna Murari, who was a close friend of Prof JP Singh, said that he has no words on how to express the sudden death of Prof Singh as he was a friend of all but foe of none in the institution.

BIT Sindri, Career Development Centre chairman Prof Ghanshyam while paying condolence said that the sudden death of Prof Singh is a major jolt to the institution and a major shock to faculty members as well as staff and students.

Prof Vikrama Pandey, Prof Nishikant Kishku, Prof Ujjual Nayak, Prof Imtiyaj Ahmed, Prof Arvind Kumar, Prof Upendra Prasad, Prof Shashi Minz, Prof Rakesh,  Prof SK Mishra also paid tributes.

Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society and  All India FCI VSS Employees Association president Sardar Sewa Singh and Sindri Chamber of Commerce Association president Dipak Kumar Dupu have also expressed deep shock over the death of Prof JP Singh.
