Dhanbad, Aug 5: Another charge sheet against Ranchi-based news channel News11 Bharat head Arup Chatterjee in court in connection with a cheating case. Investigation Officer (IO) of Bank More police station of the district has filed a charge sheet against him in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sanjay Kumar Singh in connection with an 8-year-old cheating case lodged by a car showroom owner.

Arup Chatterjee is presently lodged in Dhanbad jail in connection with several cheating, forgery, blackmailing and extortion charges in the different police stations since July 19. He is a resident of Bhuli township in Dhanbad.

The charge sheet has been filed against him in a case lodged by the owner of Classic Automobile Tata Motor’s showroom in Shastri Nagar, Rajendra Prasad. He had complained to Bank More police station in 2014 that Arup Chatterjee got the delivery of a Safari car worth Rs 11,10, 605 from his showroom and did not pay the money.

Rajendra Prasad in his  FIR had alleged that Arup Chatterjee came to his showroom for a car on March 10, 2014, and got the delivery of the Safari car. He took it away saying that he would pay for it in the evening. But he neither paid nor responded to Rajendra Prasad’s demand.

Waiting for Arup’s response for four months, finally, the owner on July 15, 2024,  filed the FIR in Bank More police station against him.

Arup, who later shifted to Ranchi in the name of running a news channel, had been evading Dhanbad police ever since. However, when he was arrested by Dhanbad police on July 19 from Ranchi for blackmailing and extortion demand, the Bank More police on July 22 applied for his remand in the 2014 cheating case. The court on July 25 allowed the Bank More police for taking remand.

After interrogation, the Bank More police have now filed a charge sheet against him.
