SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Sept 20: The Dhanbad district administration has set up a four- member committee to probe the Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Gondudih colliery mishap in which three women were buried  alive in crater on Sunday.
After recovery of all the three bodies in 34 hours rescue operation, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Barun Ranjan announced   a four-member committee under ADM ( law and order) Kamalkant Gupta to  probe the reason behind the incident and suggest  safety measures for the nearby Basti residents.
SDPO Baghmara Nisha Murmu, circle officer (CO) Baghmara Ravi Bhushan Prasad and BCCL Kusunda Area general manager VK Goel are other members of the  probe committee.
Though the district administration has not fixed a timeframe for filing the report,  a senior official of the district administration said the deputy commissioner has directed the committee to submit the report as soon as possible so that timely action can be taken to avoid  repeat of such types of incidents in future.
Notably, three women of Chotki Bouwa Basti were buried alive on Sunday afternoon when land on the colliery road caved in all of a sudden under their feet. A BCCL official said  the crater was  7 feet wide and around 15 feet deep.

All the three bodies were brought out on Monday late evening after 34 hours of the rescue operation.

However, residents of Chotki Bouwa  Basti are still demonstrating  with the bodies  for compensation to the family members of the victims and  rehabilitation of  people ( basti residents) at a safe place from subsidence prone  area.

A meeting of residents  and senior police,  administration, BCCL   and outsourcing company officials was held  till late night of Tuesday. But the family members of victims refused to perform last rites without getting compensation not less than Rs 20 lakh and a job in BCCL.
